ABOUT US
Our Mission:
A place of welcome hospitality for an east side Erie neighborhood, the House of Mercy, established and sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy, promotes a healthy neighborhood by providing activities and advocacy that engage adults and children in positive experiences for them and their neighborhood.
HISTORY

How we began:
Action Plan of the Institute of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas called for 31 Houses of Mercy to be modeled after Catherine McAuley's original House of Mercy located in Dublin, Ireland. In April of 2002, the Sisters of Mercy in Erie, PA opened the first designated House of Mercy in the United States. The House of Mercy is a sponsored ministry of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas.

Today the House of Mercy still follows the original model set forth by Catherine McAuley, with Sisters living and working in the same building, located directly in the neighborhood receiving services. Over 100 youth and families receive services each year.

In 2027 the House of Mercy will celebrate 25 years of service to this local neighborhood.
