HISTORY
How we began:
Action Plan of the Institute of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas called for 31 Houses of Mercy to be modeled after Catherine McAuley's original House of Mercy located in Dublin, Ireland. In April of 2002, the Sisters of Mercy in Erie, PA opened the first designated House of Mercy in the United States. The House of Mercy is a sponsored ministry of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, New York, Pennsylvania, Pacific West Community.

Today the House of Mercy still follows the original model set forth by Catherine McAuley, with Sister Michele Schroeck living and working in the same building, located directly in the neighborhood receiving services. Over 300 youth and families receive services each year. You can learn more about all activities and services provided here.
